Gang (Kevin) HAN, Ph.D.in mass communications (Syracuse University, 2007), is Assistant Professor in the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication at Iowa State University. Prior to moving to ISU, Gang was Assitant Professor at the Department of Communication, State University of New York at Fredonia from 2007 to 2009. Gang worked as a research assistant to the John Ben Snow Professor, Pamela J. Shoemaker, in the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University from 2004 to 2007. He received his Bachelor of Economics from Nankai University in 1994, and his MA in journalism from Fudan University in 2000.
Gang joined the faculty of Journalism School at Fudan University in 2000, and taught there through 2004, where he was also a research fellow at the state accredited Center for Information and Communication Studies.
Gang is a former associate with Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide where he worked with a number of leading multinational organizations. Before that he was on the Board of Directors of Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Shanghai, as a public relations and media specialist. As a freelancer and a guest host, he also produced and edited television news at the News Channel of Shanghai Television Station, music shows at Radio Tianjin, and news website for anjia.com in China before resuming his scholastic pursuit in communications.
Gang's research interests include news framing and framing effects, mobile communication, the influence of information technologies on Internet-based and international public relations (with mobile and digital media), mediated risk communication, the impact of media use on health, online public opinion, and Internet-based media sociology, as reflected in his projects, conference activities and publications. He has published 12 peer-review journal articles and book chapters, seven of which as single author, in such publications as Mass Communication & Society, Asian Journal of Communication, American Journal of Media Psychology, Journalism and Communication Research Journal, and Journalism Studies Quarterly.
Gang's teaching area covers public relations, social media, research methods, communication theory, public opinion and various mass communication cources at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
